Just like in a picture book: Lake Königssee in the Berchtesgadener Land region

Schönau am Königssee offers an exciting excursion destination that is easily accessible from Salzburg. The Königssee flows into the Salzach via the Königssee and Berchtesgadener Ache rivers.

The lake is protected to the east by the Watzmann east face, which rises 2,100 meters above the lake level, and borders the municipality of Schönau am Königssee in Berchtesgadener Land to the north. The crystal-clear waters are also home to a rich variety of fish and plants.

Königsseeschifffahrt

Hardly any visitor to Lake Königssee leaves this paradisiacal excursion destination without taking a boat trip to the island of Bartholomä. St. Bartholomä is considered the landmark of Lake Königssee. The picturesque peninsula can only be reached by boat and is home to the world-famous pilgrimage church of the same name dating back to the 12th century as well as a former hunting lodge.

The Berchtesgaden region looks fairytale-like from the water. The sound of trumpets and flugelhorns can be heard from the west side of the lake, creating an impressive echo to frame the Königssee experience. Shipping has flourished here since 1909, as the hipped-roof boat huts are a reminder.
